William Elvis Sloan founded the Sloan Valve Company in 1906 and it was birthed from his early experiences in the plumbing industry. Sloan worked as an apprentice pipefitter while living in his home of Missouri and moved to Chicago where he became a foreman, superintendant, and then an independent contractor. Sloan invented the manual flush valve, which gave indoor plumbing its first big leap into the modern age. His many patents testify of the dedication and craftsmanship he put into the plumbing industry.
