This tool is purpose-built, so it has to be used to pull faucet cartridges of specific styles/models. It is very durable as it is stainless steel; no comparison to the cheap plastic tool that comes with the cartridges. It will capture the cartridge with a long bolt which threads into the stem, thus enabling a much easier removal. The only thing that might not be so wonderful is the price. But I'm a tool guy anyway, and I can see the benefit of buying a specialized tool from time to time in order to greatly ease a difficult portion of a particular project. This tool works very well, especially in areas like mine, where the water is hard and mineral deposits are common on fixtures, etc. The plastic tool never would have made this job possible.
Moen cartridges over time can really be seated in the fixture. The removal tool packed with the replacement cartridge is plastic and useless. The tools I have used from home improvement stores tend to break the cartridge stem and leave a big removal job. This tool has a much better design.
