The bar will attempt to move in 6 X 2 degrees of freedom if not hog-tied. Open it and adjust to the right size on the floor. Then get several 8 X 1/2 inch pieces of wood (shim stock works) and masking tape and secure the two tubes together and keep the slide joints from moving. Once you have it strapped so nothing can move, then install it and remove the wood and tape.
